Academics

The most important tax dollars this country pays are for education. To use a well-known phrase: "the children are our future". They are the future of our nation and the guardians of the most advanced Constitution ever written by humankind, which guarantees life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

Today, our world has "gone global" - and although we are currently the global leader when compared to other countries, our educational results, especially those of math and science, are faltering and we are dropping behind other countries in results.

Contrary to Jay Mathews' assertions that you don't need to pass tests to be a "top" school, life does demand results.

There is really no substitute for excellence, no matter what career path you may choose. It's not enough to show up for work - it's what you do while there that counts. And Clarke's Test Results can be improved.

It's time to re-focus on our school district's academic structure.

It's time for a new approach.

"Such a degree of learning [should be] given to every member of the society as will enable him to read, to judge and to vote understandingly on what is passing."

--Thomas Jefferson to Littleton Waller Tazewell, 1805

"We looked at the problems facing America and realized that if we are going to be a competitive nation, we need a far better educated populace than we have now. The American K-12 public education has gone from No. 1 in the world some 30 years ago, to No. 19. We thought, This is bad for the country and bad for our democracy."

--Eli Broad - multi-billionaire, (founder - SunAmerica). Has now established The Broad Residency in Urban Education.
