Frequently Asked Questions
- What exactly am I getting for my money?
- You design the site as you like it, and for your money, we deliver an (X)HTML file for each page you request, and a stylesheet (CSS file) to control the presentation of the elements inside the (X)HTML. Our XHTML files will validate strict. This is done for you at no extra cost, to ensure your page will show up as intended in all major browsers, and degrade gracefully in text browsers or older browsers.
- Do you guys operate in days, or business days?
- You've got us there. We are a real and established business, with a single central office presence. As such, we operate on a business-day schedule. Our typical office hours are 10am to 6pm Eastern Standard Time, and if you submit your file after 6pm, then the delivery schedule will start on the next day.
- Who has the rights to these files?
- Everything you submit remains copyrighted by its respective original copyright holder. Typically, that's you, presuming all graphics are original. The files we give to you are also yours, to use freely as you wish. Any copyright ownership issue that is questionable may be laid to rest here: Upon submission of completed (X)HTML/CSS files to you, we hereby specifically transfer any copyright that we might have been able to retain to you, so that you have copyright/ownership of all design and files when all is said and done.
- Are you going to tell anyone that you coded my web site?
- In general, no. We are happy to sign a Non-Disclosure Agreement with our clients, but it isn't even necessary, because we will not share any project details or any client details with ANYONE, unless specifically agreed to by the client - and even then, it will only be to include your site in our portfolio.
To reiterate, we will not share project details or client details with any third party, and we will not include any work in our portfolio without specifically receiving written permission from the client. Of course the only exception to this rule is where law prohibits us to keep your information to ourselves. If the FBI comes to our door looking for you, all bets are off!
- I don't know anything about FTP. Can you upload the files to our hosting provider?
- Yes. Let us know if you need this service. It does not cost extra, but we'll need some details about the hosting provider, such as an FTP username and password. It is safest to give this information over the telephone.
- Do you need something from me other than my Photoshop .PSD?
- Yes! This is your site; it's your project. You have to be prepared to provide any clarification regarding the transformation of this file from a graphic to a web page. The best thing you can do is give us ANY details you can think of at the time you submit the file. Are the links rollovers? If they're text links, we need to know hover color. If they're graphics, we need an example of what the graphic will look like upon rollover. Do you have a specific need for this site to have a liquid layout (meaning it takes up the whole window regardless of resolution)? Will you need us to FTP the files to your hosting provider? If there are any other minor details that may not be clear from the graphic you submit, it never hurts to let us know.
- Does the file have to be a .PSD?
- It doesn't have to be a .PSD, but a layered .PSD is the easiest format for us to work with. That's assuming it's layered properly. Being a PSD doesn't mean much if it's flattened. We can handle pretty much any file format, but obviously, if you submit a JPG, we aren't going to be able to magically slice it into high-quality image slices.
Layered PSDs, Fireworks PNGs, and Illustrator (.AI) files are the best. Additionally, if you have HTML that you want cleaned up, we'll do that, too. It's a popular option for people with table-based layouts who want to get rid of the tables in favor of more semantic markup.
